A 23-year-old Johnson County man was arrested Monday after crashing his vehicle into a tree and telling investigators, “I have been drinking. Do what you must,” according to police reports.
Shawn Dugger’s vehicle was badly damaged after he lost control while on State Road 44 and crashed it into a tree. He refused medical treatment and was outside of the vehicle when officers arrived.
Dugger admitted he had been drinking whiskey and tested at nearly three times the legal limit to be driving.
He was arrested on a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated.
Johnson County police have identified the victim in a Wednesday afternoon fatal crash as Brian Poe, 38, from Trafalgar.
Poe was a passenger in a white 1998 Dodge pickup truck driven by Devin Fleener, 18, the Johnson County Sheriff said.
The single-vehicle crash happened at about 2:07 p.m. on County Road 300 South, near the Fairhaven Christian Church, Cox said in a release. Police found the truck upside down when they responded to a report of an accident, he said.
