Two people were killed in a crash on Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 81 near Carlisle, Cumberland County.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 47. Police say 26-year-old Shane Myers of Carlisle was driving an SUV southbound on I-81 and crossed over into the median and crashed into a tractor trailer in the northbound lane. The crash killed Myers and the 42-year-old tractor trailer driver, Kevin Carr of Williamstown, Nj.

Police say both drivers died of traumatic injuries and were pronounced dead on the scene.

A wrong-way crash on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County left one woman dead on Tuesday night. State police say a tractor-trailer crashed head-on into a vehicle headed north in the southbound lanes in Silver Spring Township. The collision happened after the truck sideswiped another vehicle trying to avoid the oncoming car. The crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. on I-81 near mile marker 57 outside of Mechanicsburg. The driver of a tractor-trailer that overturned and backed up Interstate 81 near Carlisle Wednesday lost control of the vehicle after choking on some coffee, state police said.

Richard Francis, 61, was driving south on the interstate when he took the offending sip of coffee near Exit 44 at about 3:12 p.m., state police reported. Francis was trying to pull off the roadway onto the right shoulder to settle himself when the vehicle slid into the grass off the shoulder and struck a wire fence, police said.
