Wednesday, April 23, 2014A man was killed after being hit by a car on Route 222 in Lancaster County Thursday night.
The accident happened around 8:20 p.m. near the Cocalico Creek Bridge. Police said the victim, John Rineer Jr., 66, of Ephrata, got out of his car after something fell off the trailer he was towing. He was struck when he went to pick up the debris.
Rineer was taken to Lancaster General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police said the driver who struck him is a woman from New Jersey. There is no word on whether she will be charged.

Wednesday, January 22, 2014A fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer is causing major delays on Route 222 in Lancaster County.
The crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes of 222 about a mile south of the Denver Turnpike exit.
Northbound traffic is down to one lane and is expected to remain that way for hours (as of 10:30 a.m.).
The tractor-trailer was carrying construction equipment. It's not yet known what caused the crash.
