Fairfield police Chief Gary MacNamara was riding in his unmarked police cruiser when he was rear-ended by a woman with a 7-month old child in the backseat. The impact pushed the cruiser into another vehicle in front of him. The woman then drove across the street and struck a brick building, hurting no one but causing some damage. She and her child were uninjured, as well as the driver whose car was struck by the cruiser. MacNamara is hospitalized for his injuries. Police are as of yet uncertain what caused the accident, and the investigation is still underway.
