8-year-old Grant Robbins was driving a two-seater ATV on Emerald Avenue when he made a turn into his family's driveway and the vehicle flipped over. He was not wearing a seat belt or helmet, and was pinned by the vehicle's roll bar. Repsonders pronounced him dead at the scene.

At approximately 4:10 p.m. Thursday, a pickup driven by 19-year-old Quentin Ary of Vinton was westbound on 55th Street when it went through the intersection and was hit by a semi driven by Jack Youde, 56. The tractor trailer was northbound on Highway 150. Ary and four passengers were all were pronounced dead at the scene, including 20-year-old Nicole Jacobson of Vinton, 17-year-old Triston Randall of Urbana, 14-year-old Hunter Tuttle of Vinton and 12-year-old Zoey Tuttle of Vinton.

Ayers was driving an SUV on 310th Street, containing Drew Steckelberg, 15, Cody L. Zimmerline, 23, Shy J. Terry, 22, as passengers, at about 4:20am, when Ayers did not properly negotiate a curve on the road and the SUV rolled into a ditch. The wreck ejected Ayers and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Terry sustained the worst injuries, and was airlifted to the hospital with a broken hand and collarbone, a collapsed lung, and other more minor injuries. Steckelberg and Zimmerline were taken to a hosptial by ambulance and reportedly sustained more minor injuries.

Authorities say a 5-year-old and a 19-year-old were killed when an Dustin Shakelford's car collided with a semi after he took his two children in a custody dispute. That was approximately half an hour after a Britt, Iowa, woman reported that her husband and another man violated a protection order and took their two children. Shakelford was the only person in the vehicle wearing a seatbelt.
