Police say an off-duty NYPD officer driving the wrong way on the state Thruway north of New York City crashed head on with another vehicle, killing both drivers. New York state police say the two vehicles collided in Suffern just before 7 a.m. Tuesday. There were no passengers. They say 32-year-old NYPD officer Richard Christopher, of Suffern, was driving a blue pickup truck southbound in the northbound lanes. Police say the pickup hit an SUV driven by 59-year-old James DeVito, of Airmont. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
