A 20-year-old woman was apparently looking at her phone to select music while driving north on Highway 99 at about 12:15 p.m., and didn't see that the cars in front of her had slowed down. She rear-ended the vehicle in front of her before careening into the other lane and striking a second vehicle, which was propelled forward into one more vehicle. Six people in total were injured, but no further information was released.

This major collision began at about 7:45 a.m., when a 48-year-old man driving an eastbound semi-truck on Highway 120 did not slow down for the increasing traffic in front of him, and rear-end a Toyota Corolla, which struck two more sedans and another semi-truck in a chain reaction. The 25-year-old woman driving the Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A 35-year-old man in one of the other cars sustained serious injuries, while the at-fault driver in the semi-truck had moderate injuries.
