A fatal accident which occurred Saturday afternoon on Highway 301 near George Swindell Road. Shortly after 12 p.m., Gina Marie Pepin, 59, of Panama City Beach, FL, and Gerard Pepin were traveling northbound in a 2007 Ford Mustang and ran off the highway into a wooded area. Both were ejected from the car. Gina Pepin was pronounced dead at the scene. Gerard Pepin was flown by helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. There are now charges pending against him. The man and woman were staying at a Richmond Hill motel.
At least two people have been injured in a crash involving two vehicles near New Smyrna Beach High School on Friday afternoon.
Volusia County deputies said one car was turning out of the parking lot of the school when it was struck by another vehicle.
One car flipped over onto its roof in the crash.
A 21-year-old and 20-year-old were hurt in the crash. One was airlifted to Halifax Hospital but their condition is unknown.
It's not clear if the crash involved students.
No other information was immediately available.
Local police agencies and the Florida Highway Patrol were kept busy over the holiday weekend as they investigated a slew of fatal accidents.
Florida Highway Patrol said four people died in three separate accidents in Volusia County Saturday, while two more died in an accident on Interstate 4 Saturday morning.
The accidents varied from a wrong way driver that killed two people early Saturday morning on Interstate 4 at Princeton Avenue to a fatal RV accident that killed a driver Saturday afternoon on Interstate 95.
