A 25-year-old Carlsbad motorist died early Tuesday when she veered off Interstate 5 and crashed into a tree, the California Highway Patrol said.

A driver was found dead early Wednesday morning after a pickup truck went off the Interstate-5 freeway near SeaWorld in Mission Bay and collided into a palm tree.

A driver was found dead early Wednesday morning after a pickup truck went off the Interstate-5 freeway near SeaWorld in Mission Bay and collided into a palm tree.

The crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on the I-5 southbound off-ramp at Sea World Drive. According to California Highway Patrol, a Nissan pickup truck left the freeway, rolled over and hit the tree, leaving the driver trapped inside.

Responding firefighters used the Jaws of Life to take the doors and roof off. However, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The victim’s name was not immediately released.

The off-ramp was closed for several hours.
