Lakeside man killed in crash on SR-52 in Santee

"The vehicle became airborne, then overturned multiple times before coming to rest in the embankment below," the Medical Examiner's office report said. "An ambulance driver witnessed the incident, pulled over, and called 911."

The Medical Examiner on Saturday released the name of the man killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning off State Route 52 in Santee.

Christopher John Link, 45, of Lakeside, was the man who was killed.

Link had been driving a white Lexus east on Route 52, approaching the Cuyamaca Street offramp. He was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control on the curvy roadway around 12:50 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

"The vehicle became airborne, then overturned multiple times before coming to rest in the embankment below," the Medical Examiner's office report said. "An ambulance driver witnessed the incident, pulled over, and called 911."

Paramedics confirmed Link's death due to blunt force injuries at the scene, the Medical Examiner said.

Link had been wearing a seatbelt but succumbed to his injuries, Pearlstein said.

Pearlstein said investigators were working to determine whether alcohol or other drugs were a factor in the crash.
