Man 19, killed when his car crashes at high speed into utility pole and catches fire.
A 19-year-old man was killed early Tuesday in a fiery, high speed crash off a street near Shadowridge Plaza shopping center.
The northbound Chevrolet Camaro careened off the roadway in the 1300 block of Sycamore Avenue in Vista about 1:30 a.m., a sheriff's Sgt. said. The vehicle rolled over, then hit an electrical box and light pole and burst into flames.
Firefighters discovered the body of the driver while extinguishing the blaze, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.
The Vista resident's name was withheld pending family notification.
Power was knocked out to around 2,000, but was restored about three hours later.
