The man who died Wednesday afternoon after his pickup truck crashed into a warehouse has been identified as Carlos Bustillos of Longmont.

A Longmont Police Cmdr. said in a Thursday morning press release that the 34-year-old man was identified based on statements from the family and from witnesses. He said that a positive identification from the coroner's office is pending.

Bustillos died in the accident, which happened at 110 S. Bowen Circle, near Boston Avenue. After the crash, the warehouse caught fire.

Bustillos's children — a 15-year-old boy in the front passenger seat of the 1998 Dodge Ram and a 13-year-old girl just behind her brother — tried to pull their father out but could not, police said Wednesday evening.

The teenagers escaped without injury. The family's dog was also in the truck and died in the accident.

The crash occurred at about 4 p.m. Bustillos was driving south on South Bowen Street and stopped for the stop sign at Boston Avenue, Satur said. He then accelerated and, instead of following the road as it curves to the southwest, crashed into the warehouse, Satur said.

"What it looked like to me was that he was having a seizure or something," said a witness who was behind Bustillo's truck at the Boston Avenue stop sign and said the vehicle first idled into the middle of Boston and then sped up into the building. "I could see his arms and head twitching pretty fast. It looked like someone was either messing around or having a seizure."

After 911 was called, the witness stayed at the scene with another man, waiting for help to come.

"It drove into where the electrical box was in the building, so there were sparks and fire nearby," he said. "There wasn't anything we could do but watch and wait for the police and fire to show up."

"The only thing I was thinking about was those poor kids," said Dolloff, who works nearby at Intermountain Railway Company. "They have to deal with this for the rest of their life. I can't imagine what they're going through."

The investigation to determine the cause of the accident and fire is continuing.
