Elise Spennati, 32, Cole Spennati, 25, Aila Spennati, 4, Sianna Spennati, 1, and Michael Bricker, 68, killed in multi-vehicle crash involving semi trucks on I-95 in Lumberton, North Carolina
Trooper William Henning confirmed Tuesday that three adults and two children were killed in the crash. The victims haven't been identified because next of kin have not been notified.
The crash, which happened between Exit 2 and Exit 10 in Robeson County, occurred when a tanker trunk failed to slow down and struck a Dodge pickup truck, according to the NCHP. This collision resulted in a fire.
Officials said the collision involved three tractor-trailers and three other vehicles. They told CBS North Carolina that five people died and four others were injured. Of those injured, three were airlifted to the hospital.
Two passenger vehicles were burned with one of them flipped upside down.
The other four victims were all in one vehicle and from Goose Creek, South Carolina:
- Elise Ann Spennati, 32
- Cole Allen Spennati, 25
- Aila Spennati, 4
- Fianni Spennati, 2
Spennati's husband Cole and their two children, 1-year-old Sianna and 4-year-old Aila, all died as a result of their injuries.
Cole's mother spoke with ABC News 4 and said the family was visiting for Mother's Day weekend in Pennsylvania.
The family had spent a few days in Pennsylvania visiting relatives during Mother's Day weekend. Jen Spennati tearfully said it was a weekend filled with love and laughter.
