Albany Woman Dies in a Pedestrian Crash near Newport
The pedestrian, identified as Deborah L. Samples, age 64, from Albany, attempted to cross the highway with oncoming traffic in both directions and was struck by a southbound 1999 Subaru Legacy driven by Joan Barry-Gertz, age 73, of Waldport.

The brief report above is incomplete. Mrs. Samples was crossing the road from the entrance of an RV park to the entrance of a state park, she was crossing in an area where others cross regularly and where pedestrians would be expected. Such a sad and tragic event.
