Officials with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department said Ladner's truck was being towed with just a chain by a man in a black pickup truck on Wolf River Road near Landon Road. Wife dead, husband on the run after deadly Gulfport wreck

Officials said when deputies arrived at the scene, Joshua was standing over Melissa's body, but jumped in his vehicle and drove away when he saw law enforcement. That is when Joshua allegedly led deputies on a high speed chase down County Farm Road before he turned west onto Highway 53, drove into a field on Menonite Road and left his truck before running in the woods.
Authorities first thought the fatal wreck was a hit and run, however further investigation showed that Ladner's truck was being towed when the crash happened. Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said deputies set up a perimeter around the area. Harrison County Deputy Coroner Brian Switzer said Melissa Jane Ladner was pronounced dead at the scene after she was ejected from her pickup truck. Officials said Ladner's truck was being towed with just a chain by a man in a black pickup truck.
