Three killed, two injured Sunday in two crashes on Interstate 81

Police are investigating two crashes that shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 for several hours Sunday.

The fatal crash occurred around 11 a.m. in Franklin County when Raymond Beck, New York, was driving in the northbound lanes near Greencastle when he swerved off the roadway, traveled across the median, and collided with a vehicle driving in the southbound lanes. Beck’s vehicle then collided with an embankment and caught fire. Both Raymond and his passenger, Rebecca Beck, were pronounced deceased at the crash site. The driver of the second vehicle, Stephen Williamson of Virginia, tried to avoid the other vehicle, but was struck head-on. His passenger, Kristine Williamson, died in the crash. Stephen was transported to a local trauma center and listed in stable condition. the cause of the crash is under investigation.
