A hit-and-run crash in Clay County left a Middleburg man in critical condition. It happened some time Sunday morning on Hibiscus Avenue when Kevin Michael Helm, 43, was walking north on Hibiscus when he was hit by the right front of a vehicle. Helm was thrown to the east side of the road.
Donald Thomasson died Sunday afternoon when his aircraft crashed near Albert Whitted Airport. The plane was completely submerged in 25 feet of murky water. Divers found Thomasson's body still strapped into the cockpit seat.
Around 8 p.m. Sunday three girls were riding on a four-wheeler. 15-year-old Julia Flannagan was driving and pulled the wheel too hard to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision with an unknown vehicle. The four-wheeler ran off the road into the ditch. Troopers report the girls were in serious condition. FHP said none of the girls were wearing seatbelts or helmets.
Bernard was traveling south when she lost control of her SUV. Her vehicle veered right, hitting Griffin's pick-up truck. Both drivers were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital where Griffin was pronounced dead. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
