The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the driver who was killed early Friday in the third wrong-way crash on Interstate 275 this year.
The wrong-way driver was Edward Jose Duran, 23, of Green Ridge Drive in Tampa, the FHP said Saturday. Investigators said Duran was driving his 1997 Honda Accord about 2:44 a.m. the wrong way against southbound traffic on the highway near downtown and struck an ambulance with two attendants but no patients.
Duran died at the scene and the two people in the ambulance suffered minor injuries.
A 20-year-old Orlando man riding a bicycle was struck by three vehicles and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The man, whose name has not been released, died after the crash, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. Friday on State Road 50 near Tanner Drive.
According to the FHP, the cyclist was riding in an unknown direction in the eastbound lanes of S.R. 50 when he was struck by a vehicle. The man was then hit by two other vehicles, according to troopers.
Miami Police say a three-year-old who was thrown from a car Tuesday evening was not restrained when the accident happened.
A three-year-old child was thrown from the SUV involved in this accident and later died. According to the accident report, the Tahoe, driven by Kayden's sister, Kierra Lee, 19, failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign which caused a crash with a silver Cadillac.
Police said if the child had been properly restrained in a car seat, he would not have been thrown from the car and most likely would have survived the crash with his sister.
A 23-year-old riding a skateboard in the middle of a Fleming Island street early Saturday morning died after he was struck by a motorcycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say Kyle Klocek was on a skateboard in the westbound travel lane of Bald Eagle Road near Lake Terrance Lane about 1 a.m. when he was struck by a westbound motorcycle ridden by Arthur Zimmerly, of Jacksonville.
Klocek died at the scene.
The motorcycle overturned, throwing Zimmerly onto the road. He was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries.
Tampa Police have arrested a Bay area man in connection with Friday night’s fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl.
Geraldo Rivera, 48, is facing one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail just after 5 am Saturday and is being held on a bond of $15,000.
According to the suspect’s arrest report he was arrested just after midnight at his home in the 900 block of East 26th Ave. His residence is approximately two miles from the site of the fatal crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a drunk driver ran into two construction workers along U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte, killing one.
The crash happened late Wednesday as 22-year-old Mark Andrew Caton and 39-year-old Jemel Gardener were performing road maintenance.
Troopers say 26-year-old Christopher Allen Best didn't see a pickup truck with flashing overhead LED lighting signaling traffic to switch lanes. His Oldsmobile struck the men, pinning them between the car and the pickup truck.
Three people are dead after they crashed head on with a semi truck Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 64-year-old Diane Downey, and two children, an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old, were all killed in this accident.
Downey was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala on eastbound I-10 just west of the 214 mile marker. According to FHP, a woman driving a Honda Accord collided with the Impala just around just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The impact pushed the Impala over the median of I-10 and into the westbound lanes and into the path of a semi truck.
