Florida Highway Patrol troopers have made an arrest on Wednesday in the hit-and-run crash that killed a 65-year-old disabled man.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers today made an arrest in a fatal hit and run crash that occurred Sunday morning along Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee.

Giselle Marie Saez Castellano, 27, 1902 Lighthouse Way, No. 104, Kissimmee, has been charged with felony leaving the scene of a crash involving death and was taken to Osceola County Jail, FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes said.

Troopers say that Saez Castellano struck and killed Rafael Cotto, 65, Sunday morning around 7:15 a.m. while driving her green 2003 Kia Spectra southbound approaching Carroll Street. Cotto was reportedly walking on the west (right) shoulder, also heading south. The vehicle drifted off the roadway and struck Cotto, then continued south on OBT without stopping at the scene of the crash. The vehicle’s right rear-view mirror was ripped off during the crash and was later recovered near the scene. An hour later, paramedics arrived and pronounced Cotto dead at the scene, a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

On Monday, the vehicle was located on Lighthouse Way in a nearby apartment complex, with the right rear-view mirror missing and windshield damage consistent with Sunday morning’s crash. Troopers made contact with Saez Castellano this morning and admitted to driving the Spectra at the time of the crash. She also stated she dozed off, drifted off the road and struck a pole.
