Preliminary reports show woman, 79, may have put vehicle into reverse.

Four people were hurt Thursday after a car crashed into a hospital in New Smyrna Beach.

Police said the first call came into 911 around 1:30 p.m. about a car crashing into Bert Fish Medical Center Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center.

Three of the people hurt were inside the lobby at the time of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, a 79-year-old woman, was driving a Chevy Malibu. According to preliminary reports, she may have accidentally put her vehicle into reverse, slamming into the building.

Two people were taken to Halifax with one of them airlifted to the hospital. Police said both were considered trauma alerts. One man, identified as Edmond Kestory 63, later died from his injuries.

The other two that were injured, including the driver of the vehicle, were taken to Bert Fish with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
