Car investigted in fatal hit-and-run in Orange County

A 35-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash while crossing a street in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Alfonso Lopez died in the crash, which happened early Saturday on U.S. Highway 441 at Wakulla Way in Orlando.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said they are looking for the driver of a car after a pedestrian was struck and killed around 2:48 a.m., Saturday.

Troopers said the accident happened on U.S. Highway 441 at Wakulla Way after a pedestrian ran out into the highway.

Troopers said the 35-year-old man was standing at the bus stop while the unknown driver was headed southbound on U.S. Highway 441.

Troopers said the victim ran into the roadway and the driver changed lanes, striking the man.

Troopers said the driver kept going and they believe the car to have mirror and front bumper damage.

Troopers said the car was described as a red, 2013 or 2014 Nissan Altima, based on the parts that were left at the scene of the accident.

Troopers are asking anyone who may have information to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.

Troopers were not identifying the victim pending notification of next of kin.
