A car slammed into two Plantation businesses Wednesday, causing major damage.

Just before 6 p.m., a woman driving a BMW was trying to park to visit the urgent care in the Plantation Town Square Mall when someone cut her off. What transpired was an accident that could have happened to anyone, Plantation Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Joel Gordon said.

"When she attempted to stop, she appeared to have hit the gas instead of the brake. And it appears that the carpeting got stuck under or on top of the gas pedal. And the car revved and basically jumped the curb,” he said.

At that point the BMW darted through the hedge, flattened a disabled sign, and tore into the storefront and through the wall of the urgent care – narrowly missing Kelly Dean.

Dean, who is 9 months pregnant, was standing by the door of the Haute Tots children’s clothing store she owns.

"I heard the engine rev and I watched her come over the curb and then hit the sign and I watched her come through my store,” Dean said.

It took the fire department about 45 minutes to secure the building, and amazingly crews were able to drive the car out – the same way it made an urgent entrance .

As for Dean, she'll have quite the story to tell her daughter – in a few weeks.

The driver won't be charged as police say the incident was just an unfortunate accident.
