A driver suffered serious injuries Thursday morning in a crash between a log truck and a pickup truck on Interstate 95 southbound, according to Nassau County Fire Rescue.

The crash happened about 8 a.m., just south of the Georgia border.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Stephen Fanning was driving his pickup in the center lane heading toward U.S. Highway 17 when he changed lanes into the right lane to pass a vehicle. Troopers said he underestimated the speed of the log truck and struck the rear of it.

His truck then traveled into the right emergency lane and hit a guardrail before coming to a stop.

It took rescuers 10 minutes to extricate Fanning, of Seaside, Calif. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries.

The 66-year-old driver of the log truck was not hurt.

Two lanes of I-95 were blocked for about 30 minutes while rescuers cleared the scene.

Camden County (Ga.) Fire Rescue also responded to help Nassau County firefighters.
