BRUNSWICK | A member of a vacationing South Carolina family was killed and five others injured late Monday in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 95 just north of Glynn-Camden county line, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The family of six from Duncan, S.C., was traveling south on I-95 in a 2004 Ford Expedition when a tire blew out just before 6 p.m. causing the vehicle to overturn, Pfc. Kevin Ziegler of the Georgia State Patrol said.

Investigators have found the wreckage of a small plane that crashed Monday evening and the bodies of the two people who were on board.

Crews had been searching for the plane since the crash, focusing on a marshy area east of Brunswick, where the plane dropped off radar and was seen falling from the sky.

An air safety investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board, said crews recovered the plane about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday and raised the plane above the water and onto a barge.

Authorities say a 52-year-old Kingsland woman was killed and her husband suffered critical injuries in a four-vehicle crash near the Georgia coast.

Renee Dowdy died Sunday when a pickup truck crashed into the back of her husband's car. A Georgia State Patrol Trooper says the impact was strong enough to push the car into two other vehicles waiting in a turning lane of the Golden Isles Parkway in Brunswick.

Dowdy's husband, 50-year-old Daryl Dowdy, was air-lifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., where he was listed in critical condition Sunday night.

Crashes on Interstate 95 in Glynn County that blocked all northbound traffic Tuesday afternoon have resulted in two deaths, and Georgia highway officials say the highway may remain closed for hours.

A late morning accident just before the State Road 27 exit involved a tractor-trailer that caught fire and a car.

Authorities say I-95 northbound is closed from exit 22 to exit 42. Traffic is being diverted onto U.S. 17 through Brunswick, then back on I-95 at exit 40.

Family and friends of the two women killed Wednesday morning when a tree fell on their car say the victims lived their lives together and, tragically, died together.

Kaleigh Miller and Ashley Akra were killed when a tree fell on the car they were riding in on Blythe Island Highway. The Georgia State Patrol called it freak accident.
