Screven man dies in crash of pickup truck

James Edenfield, 44, was driving south on Hortense Road just outside Screven about 7 a.m. when his 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 went off the roadway as he traveled through a curve to the left, Trooper 1st Class Ty Brooks said in his report. The truck rotated for 350 feet and then went airborne for nearly 30 feet before it overturned for another 50 feet, Brooks' report said. The roof and windshield of the truck struck a tree and the vehicle came to rest upright in the ditch, the state patrol said.
Edenfield, who the only occupant of the pickup and not wearing a safety belt, was thrown out as the truck overturned and was dead at the scene, a police report said. High speed appears to be a factor.
