There was a fatal crash that happened on Piilani Highway around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Bail was set at $100,000 for the Kula man. Cattaneo is accused of striking bicyclist Karl B. Hagen, 61, on Piilani Highway in Kihei, Hawaii on April 12, 2014, police said.

Maui man arrested for negligent homicide months after crash

Cattaneo was arrested on a warrant following an indictment of the following charges: two counts of first-degree negligent homicide, operating a vehicle under the influence (of drugs) and no no-fault insurance. 

There was a fatal crash that happened on Piilani Highway around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators say a 28-year-old male from Kula was traveling North Bound in a pickup truck when he drifted into the bicycle lane and struck a bicyclist.

The bicyclist has been identified as 61-year-old Karl Hagen of Kihei.

Hagen was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room where he expired as a result of his injuries.

It’s unknown at this time if speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
