Harlan Masuda 46, killed after his pickup crashes into car, concrete barrier and finally a tree at Baldwin Beach Park.

A 46-year-old man is dead after his pickup truck crashed into a tree in Paia, according to Maui police.

The incident happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Baldwin Beach Park.

Witnesses told police that the driver of the truck had initially crashed into a parked vehicle, then hit a cement barrier. The cement barrier broke off, at which time the driver accelerated onto the soccer field and crashed into a coconut tree inside Baldwin Beach Park.

Medics and Maui Fire Department personnel tried to resuscitate the man, however, he died at the scene.

The driver was identified as Harlan Masuda of Wailuku.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
