A 23-year-old man driving a silver van south on Damen near 69th Street at about 12:35 a.m. failed to stop at a red light and struck an SUV that was westbound on 69th Street, police said. The man driving the van hit a pole before stopping, police said.

About 12:35 a.m., a 23-year-old Avis Jolliff was driving a silver van south on Damen near 69th Street and didn’t stop at a red light, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Avis Jolliff, the 23-year-old driver of the silver van was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he later died, according to police. The SUV driver was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and listed in stable condition, police said.
