An Iowa State Patrol crash report says 25-year-old Dustin Shackelford was driving with 19-year-old Frankie Miranda and his 5-year-old and 2-year-old children inside when the accident happened. Shackelford was the only one wearing a seat belt when his car struck the semitrailer truck. Miranda and the 5-year-old died. Shackelford and the 2-year-old were injured, but their conditions weren’t immediately available.

Authorities tell us there was already a search in progress for Shackelford prior to the accident. Britt Police Department Chief Robert Sankey says he received a report of a custody dispute from an Ashley Shackelford. We are told Shackelford went against his restraining order and took his two kids without permission and fled from the house, later getting into an accident that would kill one of his children age 5.
Authorities say a 5-year-old and a 19-year-old were killed when an Dustin Shakelford's car collided with a semi after he took his two children in a custody dispute. That was approximately half an hour after a Britt, Iowa, woman reported that her husband and another man violated a protection order and took their two children. Shakelford was the only person in the vehicle wearing a seatbelt.
