2-vehicle accident in Jefferson County kills 1, injures multiple Topekans.

A two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon north of Lawrence in Nortonville killed one person and seriously injured several others, including two Topekans, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

A two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon north of Lawrence in Nortonville killed one person and seriously injured several others, including two Topekans, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

The accident, which happened around 4:30 p.m. at K-4 highway and Osage Road in Jefferson County, took the life of 71-year-old Nortonville resident Margaret L. Schuler.

Authorities said the accident happened when a Buick Park Avenue, driven by 15-year-old Atchison resident Alyissa Berglund, collided with a Toyota Camry, driven by 71-year-old Don Schuler, of Nortonville.

The Buick was going northeast on K-4, and the Camry was southbound on Osage Road. KHP said the Camry failed to yield to the Buick at a stop sign.

Berglund suffered a possible injury, while Mary R. Wilks, 17, of Topeka; Debbie A. Russell, 36, of Topeka; and Amber Forbes, 9, of Atchison, received disabling injuries. Additionally, Benjamin Forbes, 4, of Atchison, suffered a possible injury, and Evan Forbes, 1, of Atchison, was uninjured.

In the Camry, Don Schuler was injured.

Everyone was wearing a safety restraint, and everyone except for Margaret Schuler was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center to be treated.
