State police trooper struck by car on I-65

Trooper Sam Shacklette was walking to a car he had stopped for speeding on the interstate near the Bullitt County line on Saturday when he was hit. State Police say a Ford SUV driven by 43-year-old Louis Edward Dunn hit the parked vehicle and Shacklette, throwing the officer about 50 feet.

STATE TROOPER IN CAR ACCIDENT DAY BEFORE RETIREMENT

The driver that hit Shacklette has been identified as 43-year-old Louis Dunn, of Bonnieville, Kentucky. Dunn has been charged with failure to give the right of way to an emergency stopped vehicle, driving with an expired license, and no proof of insurance.

KSP trooper struck on I-65 in Bullitt County

"And while out on foot he was struck by a motor vehicle that was going northbound at that location. We got troopers to him pretty quick because we had a trooper down there close by. Bullitt county sent an ambulance," said KSP Tpr. Jeff Gregory.

Trooper injured in accident expected to be home soon

The driver of the SUV was cited for no insurance, having an expired license and failing to yield for a stopped emergency vehicle.
A Kentucky State Police trooper is recuperating after he was struck by a motorist during a traffic stop on Interstate 65. Sam Shacklette was taken to University Of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries Saturday night. No one else was hurt.
