One driver is dead and another driver is in critical condition after a head-on collision in Pleasure Ridge Park early Saturday morning. According to police, just after 2:30 a.m., a 31-year-old man driving a SUV on the wrong side of the Greenbelt Highway hit another SUV driven by a 17-year-old woman, later identified as Elissa Greenwell, heading south near the intersection with Greenwood Road. A spokeswoman for the Louisville Metro Police Department, said both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by Louisville Metro EMS and the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Department. Emergency crews transported both drivers to University Hospital. Around 4 a.m., hospital workers confirmed the driver of the SUV that went the wrong way died from his injuries received in the crash. He has not been identified. The female driver also later died from her injuries. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the collision. The LMPD traffic unit is investigating other factors. Whether or not either driver was wearing a seat belt is unknown at this time.
