Holden man, 48, killed in Ascension Parish crash near Diversion Canal

The wreck occurred about 2:45 a.m. Lambert was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound when, for unknown reasons, he failed to make it around a right-hand curve and his car ran off the road, went through a ditch and struck a protection levee, causing the car to flip onto its roof.

A 48-year-old Holden man died early Monday after a crash on La. 22, east of La. 937 near the Diversion Canal in Ascension Parish, State Police said.

Lawrence M. Lambert wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries, Trooper First Class Jared Sandifer said in a press release.

Troopers responded to the single-vehicle accident shortly before 2:45 a.m., determining that Lambert was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound when for unknown reasons he failed to negotiate a right hand curve and his Chevrolet ran off the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway the Chevy entered a ditch and struck a protection levee which caused the vehicle to flip onto its roof, Sandifer said.

Driver impairment is unknown at this time, and a toxicology sample was taken from him and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Sandifer said.

Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in this crash, Sandifer said.
