A two-vehicle crash on Route 16 in Wakefield killed a 16-year-old girl, Julia Vanella of Malden, Mass., and sent four others to the hospital, according to Wakefield Police Chief Ken Fifield . Fifield said police were looking into the drivers' actions, but icy road conditions were a factor in the mid-morning crash.

A Malden teenager was killed in a New Hampshire car crash, Saturday morning.

It happened shortly before 10 a.m. on Route 16 in Wakefield, New Hampshire.

The crash involved a Toyota 4Runner and a gray Jeep Liberty. Police say Julia Vanella, 16, of Malden, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 42-year-old from Malden and a 13-year-old passenger from Malden, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three people in the Jeep Liberty were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the Toyota was going northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck the Jeep Liberty.

There’s no word on what may have caused the crash.
