Pilot Of Ultralight Plane Dies In Crash

Troopers say 31-year-old Eric Giles, of De Graff Ohio, was flying a Quicksilver MX Ultralight plane, approximately 100 feet off the ground, when he lost control and crashed into the river.

The FAA has been called to Logan County to investigate the crash of an Ultralight plane that killed a man Saturday.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, troopers responded to the report of a plane crash on the Great Miami River, off County Road 63 in Quincy.

Troopers say 31-year-old Eric Giles, of De Graff Ohio, was flying a Quicksilver MX Ultralight plane, approximately 100 feet off the ground, when he lost control and crashed into the river.

Giles was the only occupant of the plane and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say alcohol and drugs are believed to be a factor, but crash remains under investigation.

The FAA has been called and is expected to begin conducting their investigation Sunday morning.
