Steven Michael Thompson, 23, arrested on multiple charges, after a police pursuit leads to a car crash at an intersection in St. Helens.

Police slapped down spike strips then chased a suspected drunken driver to a backyard, where an officer tackled the 23-year-old, who was arrested Friday on multiple charges. It all started about 8:40 p.m., with a call to emergency dispatchers about about a drunken driver in a Ford Focus on U.S. 30 near Scappoose. Oregon State Police overtook the car on Old Portland Road, trying to get the man, later identified as Steven Michael Thompson of St. Helens, to stop.
