The resulting accident killed the woman whose car ran into the trooper's vehicle as it rolled through the stop sign. But a state police spokesman said the trooper and a partner in the state police unit weren't responding to a call at the time of the crash. All this, according to the Erie Times-News. The victim has been identified as Donna Platz, 57, of Edinboro, who was driving north on Route 98, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:45 a.m. by Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook, the newspaper wrote. Trooper Schimp and Trooper Garrett Padasak, a passenger in the Explorer, had to be cut from the vehicle, the newspaper reported. They were taken to UPMC Hamot with moderate injuries. Both are troopers at the state police's Girard barracks. State police confirmed that the two were not responding to a call at the time of the crash.
