A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in south Nashville, and the driver is now facing charges.

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in south Nashville, and the driver is now facing charges.

Police say the pedestrian was walking with his fiancee when he was hit in the crosswalk at Harding Place and Interstate 24 around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Carlton Pitts was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died.

After being hit, Pitts was stuck in the front windshield, but police say the driver didn't stop.

The driver allegedly continued down the on-ramp before putting the car in reverse and crashing into the guardrail.

Police say the driver, Charles Farris, admitted to drinking a few glasses of wine before getting behind the wheel.

Farris says he never saw Pitts or his fiancee in the crosswalk.

He has been charged with vehicular homicide and DUI.
