Conner Edwards, 21, Cody Yell, 22, killed, Alexander Reed, 21, injured, taken to hospital, after their car rear-ends a tractor-trailer at high speed on Lake Springs Road near Portland.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the Kentucky men killed Thursday morning when their car slammed into a tractor trailer at about 80 mph in Robertson County.

The wreck occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on Lake Springs Road at the Highway 31 intersection on the Robertson-Sumner county border.

A tractor trailer was attempting to turn left from Lake Springs Road onto Highway 31 when it was rear-ended by the car, according to the THP report.

The driver of the car, Conner Edwards, 21, of Auburn, Ky., and passenger Cody Yell, 22, of Adairville, were killed. A second passenger, 21-year-old Alexander Reed of Auburn, Ky., was injured.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Authorities are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
