Crystal Beach woman dies after ATM, car accident

Officials say the cause of the incident was that the woman attempted to make a transaction by leaning out of the driver's side door. That's when the car went forward, pulled left and struck the building where the ATM was located.

Galveston County sheriff's deputies responded to a call of a woman who was pinned between her car door and an ATM. Police say it happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. A citizen flagged down a deputy while he was doing a routine check at an area grocery store, according to authorities. Officials say the cause of the incident was that the woman attempted to make a transaction by leaning out of the driver's side door. That's when the car went forward, pulled left and struck the building where the ATM was located. Emergency responders were able to pull the front of the vehicle away from the building. The woman was treated and taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch via Life Flight. The woman was identified as Nancy Harris, 45. We are told she is in critical condition. Police say foul play is not suspected.
