6-year-old suffers serious injuries after being hit by SUV in Hoover

A 6-year-old child suffered "significant" injuries Sunday afternoon after being struck by a SUV near the Village on Lorna shopping center in Hoover, police say. The child was transported to Children's of Alabama by a Hoover Fire Department Rescue unit, according to Hoover police. The child's injuries appear to be non-life threatening. Police say the child ran into Rocky Ridge Road near Ridgewood Apartments at around 4:22 p.m. while chasing after a basketball. The driver of the SUV, a 2002 Ford Escape, remained at the scene.
