Woman killed in Jeffco head-on collision identified

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office today identified the victim as Tabitha Smitherman. The crash remains under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Authorities today identified a woman who was killed in a Saturday head-collision that also injured two of her children and the driver of the other vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck, whose name hasn't been released, was airlifted to UAB Hospital with critical injuries. Smitherman and two of her sons was driving a 2013 Jeep Patriot south on Birmingport Road when her SUV collided head-on with a 2016 Dodge pickup truck.

Woman, 27, killed in wreck on Birmingport Road

The victim in a fatal two-vehicle wreck on Birmingport Road near Amanda Lane in Sylvan Springs has been identified. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office says Tabitha Marie Smitherman, 27, of Bessemer died in the wreck on Saturday morning. The man driving the other vehicle suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital. Investigators say one vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the other vehicle. They suffered serious injuries and paramedics transported them to an area hospital.
