Two women who were riding in the back of a pickup were killed in Talladega Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle was hit by an 18-wheeler.

Two women who were riding in the back of a pickup were killed in Talladega Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle was hit by an 18-wheeler.

Geneva Gardner, 40, and Winter Waites, 35, both of Talladega, were killed in the wreck at Jackson Trace Road and the Highway 275 Bypass in Talladega around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy said.

Murphy said the pickup went through a stop sign and was hit by the 18-wheeler.

Two other people who were in the pickup were flown to a hospital in Birmingham for treatment, he said. The driver of the tractor-trailer wasn't injured.
