Girl, 11, killed in car wreck

A Hillcrest Middle School student was killed in an early morning wreck Saturday. Students at Hillcrest Middle are planning to wear turquoise and light blue, Emma'€™s favorite colors, to honor her memory on Wednesday. Emma Kate Jones, 11, died at DCH Regional Medical Center after the accident. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday night at Magnolia Chapel and the funeral is scheduled for Friday in Buhl. An online account to raise money for funeral expenses at www.gofundme.com/vg22d9wb had raised more than $10,000 by Monday afternoon.

Police: 11-year-old killed in car crash at Tuscaloosa park

The single car accident happened Saturday morning around 2 a.m. at Sokol Park. Tuscaloosa police are investigating an accident that killed an 11-year-old girl. Police say Emma Kate Jones, a student at Hillcrest Middle School was killed when the 1994 Mitsubishi 300 GT she was in hit a fence. A 5-year-old and Bradley Shane Jones, 35, were also in the car. Bradley Jones was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Father charged in 11-year-old daughter's death after DUI crash

The father of a young Tuscaloosa girl killed in a DUI crash this summer is now charged in her death. Authorities said the case will be presented to a Tuscaloosa County grand jury and additional charges could be forthcoming. The Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit today announced a manslaughter charge against 36-year-old Bradley Shane Jones. His daughter, 11-year-old Emma Kate Jones, was killed Aug. 22. On Friday, Tuscaloosa authorities obtained the manslaughter warrant against Jones.
