A medical helicopter was called to the scene. The accident involved a car and sports utility vehicle. Traffic southbound on Alabama 67 from Decatur was stalled as of 8:45 a.m. Northbound traffic from Priceville was slowed. The first call connected to the accident came in at 8:24 a.m.

Police: Erratic driving calls preceded fatal wreck

Authorities said they received calls about a vehicle driving erratically before it was involved in a fatal wreck this morning at Alabama 67 and Upper River Road. A 60-year-old man was killed and a woman was injured in the two-vehicle wreck, authorities said. The woman was airlifted from the scene and was in critical condition at Huntsville Hospital, officials said. Identities of the victims have not been released. Decatur police Lt. Roger Huntzinger, head of the traffic division, said the woman was in her mid 30s.

One person was killed and another airlifted to Huntsville Hospital following a Thursday morning crash on Point Mallard Parkway in Decatur.  No further details were immediately available. Decatur police are asking drivers to avoid the area of the Parkway between Country Club Road and Hickory Hill Road.

The wreck happened on Highway 67 near Upper River Road and Point Mallard Parkway. Decatur police said an SUV and a car collided head on, killing one person and injuring another.

Huntzinger said Hopkins' Tahoe was northbound on Alabama 67. Evans' Optima was in the southbound lane nearest the road's center. The Tahoe crossed into the southbound lane and collided with the Optima, Huntzinger said.

The wreck happened on Highway 67 near Upper River Road and Point Mallard Parkway. The southbound lanes were totally blocked for over an hour. Hopkins was transported to Huntsville Hospital.
