Harry Caligone killed and several injured in charter bus crash on Interstate 10 in Baldwin County, Alabama
The bus was traveling west, carrying the students home from Central Florida when it drove into the median on Interstate 10 and then into the ravine at Cowpen Creek, about 5:30 a.m. (6:30 a.m. ET), Mack said. The last victim was extricated from the crash shortly before 9 a.m. (10 a.m. ET).
First Class Tours, which operated the bus, identified the driver as Harry Caligone, a longtime employee of the company.
At least nine people remain hospitalized early Wednesday. Hospitals said two of the most severely injured were listed in serious condition, while the other seven were in good or stable condition.
Kotowski says the driver was scheduled to meet a relief driver in Mobile before the wreck. He says that's a normal procedure, and the driver hadn't exceeded the number of hours he was allowed to drive.
If you want to help, you are directed to a Channelview band relief page on GoFundMe. At this writing, the campaign had raised over $7,000 of a $30,000 goal.
Moments before the crash, a passenger tried to revive the driver, states the report released Tuesday by the National Transportation Safety Board, which is spearheading the investigation.
