Alex City animal control officer killed in car crash

ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) - Police say a woman who works as an animal control officer in Alex City has died after a car crash. Ken Vernon is in charge of animal control for the city's department. WSFA-TV reports that 35-year-old Kelly Cotney died Monday night at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He says Cotney was passionate about animals and her job since joining the department seven years ago. Cotney's car hydroplaned during heavy rain, and then was hit by a large truck.
