Skydivers killed in accident over Eloy identified

Bernd Schmehl, 51, of Germany, and Keiron O’Rourke, 40 of the U.K., were part of a jump that involved 200 other divers at Skydive Arizona when the accident occurred, police said. Both men were experienced jumpers.

Police say two skydivers are dead after they collided during a jump over southern Arizona. Eloy says witnesses told authorities both skydivers had open parachutes when they collided about 200 to 300 feet above the ground Tuesday afternoon. At that point, their canopies collapsed and they fell. Jerome says one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to Casa Grande Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead there. A third skydiver was injured but police say that skydiver was not involved in the collision and the injuries are not believed to be serious. Police have not yet released any names. UPDATE: Keiron O’Rourke, and Bernd Schmehl have been identified as the two jumpers killed. 12/05/13
