A stretch of Grand Avenue is closed in the West Valley while police investigate a crash that critically injured a pedestrian, but transportation officials expect the road will reopen in time for the Tuesday morning commute.
A 14-year-old boy was hit crossing the street at Grand Avenue in Glendale, Arizona Monday night. The incident occured around 6:45 p.m. when the boy, who dismounted his skateboard to cross, was hit by a Hyundai sedan. The driver, a 76-year-old woman, stayed at the scene. Police say it is unclear whether or not the boy had used the crosswalk. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Glandale Police Vehicular Crimes detectives are investigating, and have determined that speed and impairment were not a factor in this accident.
