A motorcyclist was killed after a collision with a semi at a Phoenix intersection early Friday morning, a Phoenix police spokesman said.

The collision happened about 5 a.m. at the intersection of 27th Avenue and Durango Street.

Phoenix police said the tractor-trailer was making a left turn onto 27th Avenue when it was struck by an eastbound Yamaha motorcycle, said Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos.

The motorcyclist was taken to a Phoenix hospital, where he later died of his injuries, Martos said.

Evidence indicated speed might have been a factor in the collision, Martos said.

The victim's identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The semi driver was evaluated and found not to be impaired, Martos said.

No other information was immediately available and the investigation was continuing, Martos said.
