Man in wheelchair struck, killed by van in Phoenix

Santillan said the man suffered extensive trauma and "succumbed to his injuries." 
A man in a wheelchair was crossing the street at or near the intersection when he was hit by a van near 34th Street and Thomas Road around 8 p.m. The Phoenix fire department responded to the crash and discovered the victim in severly critical condition, and he was pronounced dead of his injuries a short time later. Phoenix police say the roadway will likely be closed for several hours while Phoenix Police detectives investigate the accident.
